Latvian soprano Kristīne Opolais has just received two high international awards – the soloist has been admitted as an honorary member of the Athens Philharmonic, but the Cyprus Academy of Music awarded the title of Opolais Honorary Doctor, the artist’s representatives informed.
According to Opolais, it is significant that such an assessment comes directly from Greece. “My native also has Greek blood, so I feel especially honored,” Opolais emphasized.
The opera singer was presented to the opera singer at the beginning of June by the President and Artistic Director of the Athens Philharmonic and the Cyprus Philharmonic Orchestra, Maestro Yiannis Hadjiloizou.
“Opera is one of the most complete and highest art forms. We present these recognitions to Kristīne Opolais, honoring her outstanding achievements and representing the world of opera music at the international level for many years. Also – highlighting the ability of opera singers as a personality to do good for humanity with the help of art and appreciating her faith in preserving the strong roots of her family, ”said Hajiloiz
At the same time, an active creative summer is expected in Opole. In July, Opolais will perform at the Bavarian State Opera in the title role of the Czech composer Antonín Dvořák’s opera “Mermaid”. This Latvian soprano has a special role, which once opened the door to international fame.
Already in August, Opolais together with the German tenor Jonas Kaufman will perform on the open-air opera stage in Schlossbergbun, Austria, in Giacomo Puccini’s “Tuscany”. The performances are organized in cooperation with the Graz Opera. The two have previously performed together at the Royal Opera House in London, staging Puccini’s opera Manona Lesko.
The performances of the opera “Mermaid” at the Bavarian State Opera will take place on July 18 and 20, while the “Tosca” will take place on August 22 and 24 at the Vienna Theater.
Opolais reminded that in the world, the title of Honorary Doctor is awarded by universities and academies to individuals for significant achievements and valuable contributions for the benefit of society. Honorary doctors include musicians as well as politicians, writers and scientists.
