In the evening of Sunday, February 12, in Paris, France, the well-known Latvian sommelier Raimonds Thomsons won the 1st place at the XVII World Sommelier Championship of the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (ASI). He competed with 13 other sommeliers from all over the world in the semi-finals, but won the final, beating his colleagues Nina Højgaard Jensen from Denmark and Reese Choi from China.

Raymond Thomson won the 3rd place in the previous World Sommelier Championship in Belgium in 2019, he also won the European and African Sommelier Championship in 2017. Thomsons is currently the manager of “Barents Wine Collectors” at the “Barents” restaurant in Riga. Winning the international competition is his highest career achievement.
According to ASI, Thomson will join the Association’s Champions Hall of Fame. Many previous championship winners were present when Thomson joined the winning team.
