Latvian Musicians Aija Alsiņa and Anete Kozlovska Explore Existentialism in New Single
Two Latvian musicians, Aija Alsiņa and Anete Kozlovska, have collaborated on a poignant new song that delves into the complexities of self-discovery and the human experience.
"The collaboration began organically," Kozlovska shared, proving that musical kinship can often transcend simple creativity. “In the spring, I sought out Aija after being moved by her instrumental music. It had the power to evoke entire worlds in the listener, and as we got acquainted, we were surprised by how much we shared, both personally and musically.”
Inspired by their connection, the duo decided to create a song that pondered the very essence of being alive, "What does it truly mean to be a person in this world?" Kozlovska explained.” “It was about asking profound questions – who am I? Who do I aspire to be? If we are given only one chance at life, how do we make the most of it?"
Complementing the soul-searching lyrics, a moving music video directed by Elīna Treimane-Lieljukse captures the natural beauty of Latvia, contrasting it with the simplicity of human existence. Filmed in picturesque coastal towns like Jūrmalciem, Bernāti, and at the Jūrmalciem church, the video aims to reflect on the everyday journeys we all undertake.
“We wanted to portray the natural, unassuming essence of humanity,” Kozlovska remarked. “Life is a journey we each carve out, and sometimes we need to pause and reflect – is this truly the path I desire?” The video culminates with a powerful representation of Alsiņa and Kozlovska’s combined artistry through their shared performance of the song.
Alsiņa, a seasoned musician who has previously contributed to indie and post-rock bands as a bassist, has cultivated a successful solo career over the past decade, focusing on evocative piano compositions. She holds a master’s degree in writing for film and media from a British university, and her instrumental work – encompassing two studio albums, 20 singles, and film and commercial score compositions – has captivated listeners globally, amassing an impressive 7 million streams on Spotify alone.
Kozlovska, with a musical career spanning over two decades, is a versatile songwriter and composer recognized for both solo work and collaborations. She released her album “Tik vads” and the Latvian hits album “Čuč,” contributed music to the play “Egoisti” at the Valmiera Drama Theatre, and participated in diverse creative projects. She formerly belonged to the groups “Tramplini" and “Lādezers," and continues to perform both independently and alongside fellow musician Kārlis Kazāks.
