Latvian Security Service Detains Activist from Night Watch Group Protecting Soviet Monuments

The Latvian State Security Service (VDD) on Monday detained Alexander Zhgun, a member of the Night Watch group, created to protect Soviet monuments to be demolished.

About this, as reported “European Truth”says the response of the department to the request of the portal Delphi.

On Tuesday, the Riga City Court, at the request of the VDD, imposed a measure of restraint on Zhgun in the form of detention. The decision of the court can be appealed to the Riga District Court in the coming days.

The State Security Service of Latvia has not yet reported what exactly Zhgun is being charged with.

But the day before, Russian media wrote that Zhgun, who had previously actively opposed the demolition of the monuments, was detained on his way to work, and then taken home, where they conducted a search.

Zhgun is a member of the Night Watch, a group organized by the Russian Union of Latvia party to protect Soviet monuments. Some of them from last year legally subject to demolition.

Recall that in March the Prosecutor General’s Office of Latvia issued a second warning The “Russian Union of Latvia” due to the spread of Kremlin narratives, in case of repetition of violations, its activities may be banned through the courts.
