“Latvian Rock Legend Harijs Zariņš Returns to the Stage After Successful Cancer Surgery in Germany”

At the end of last year, it was reported that the legend of Latvian rock, the founder of the bands “Opus Pro” and “Colt”, guitarist and composer and lyricist of many well-known hits Harijs Zariņš, has progressed cancer, so the help of people is being asked to collect funds for the necessary surgery.

Twig was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in 2014. Until now, the musician fought the disease on his own and with his own resources, saying that “I have not defeated cancer, but I live with it”. But then the disease progressed, so an urgent operation in Germany was necessary. New, innovative methods are used in this operation, which unfortunately are not available in Latvia, and the necessary costs are 32,000 euros.

In order for Harijs Zariņš to perform the operation so important to his life, the necessary funds were collected with the support of the “Līdzskaņa” foundation and the public. People were very responsive, the necessary amount was raised, and the rock musician was able to go to a clinic in Germany in March. At the end of March, he already returned to Latvia – full of optimism. “According to the doctors, the operation was successful. The rehabilitation period is still going on, but with the permission of the doctors, I can already go on stage and continue playing music,” Zariņš tells “Kas Jauns” magazine, adding: “Special thanks to the people of Latvia, who gave me a lot of good words, cheered me up, gave me strength and faith. I would also like to say a big thank you to my Latvian doctor, professor Vilni Lietuvietis, for his very professional approach, understanding and support. From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank the Pszkania foundation for everything that was done for me. And in general – words cannot express the great gratitude I feel in my heart. May we all be in good health!”
