The Latvian rally crew with pilot Mārtiņas Seskas and co-driver Renārs Franci took the lead in the third stage of the European Championship (ERC) in the Polish rally on Saturday.
After the 22nd place in the first stage on Friday, seven stages were held a day later. The Latvian crew, which competes with the Škoda RS Rally 2 vehicle, won the second, fifth, sixth and seventh stages, ranked third in the third stage, second in the fourth and seventh in the eighth.
Already after the second stage, Sesks and Franci moved up to the second place in the overall standings of the stage, but after the fifth stage they took the lead.
After the second day of the competition, the Latvian crew is 8.2 seconds ahead of the second-placed New Zealander Hayden Pedon’s crew, while home team Mikolajs Marčiks is already 41.4 seconds behind the Latvians.
On Sunday, motor sportsmen will complete the remaining eight stages.
In the first stage of the ERC season in Portugal, the Latvian crew ranked 12th, and in the second stage in the Canary Islands, they took ninth place.
Eight stages are planned for the ERC championship this season, the fourth of which will be hosted by Latvia in June.
