On Thursday, the Prime Minister also had a bilateral meeting with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of the European Parliament, Robert Metsol. During these bilateral meetings, the Prime Minister assured that the course of the Latvian government remains unchanged and that it supports a strong and united European Union (EU).
Silina also emphasized that it is necessary to continue supporting Ukraine financially and militarily. The Prime Minister also expressed hope that EU leaders will make a decision on opening EU accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. The officials also discussed the growing challenges of migration in the European Union. Silina emphasized that a decisive reaction to the hybrid attack on the eastern borders of the EU by the regime of Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko is necessary.
During a meeting with the leader of the democratic movement of Belarus, Sviatlan Cihanouska, Siliņa assured that Latvia will continue to support the desire of the people of Belarus to live in a country that is free and democratic in contrast to Lukashenko’s regime.
The Prime Minister also met with Norwegian Prime Minister Jūnas Stēri. During the conversation, Siliņa expressed his gratitude for Norway’s significant contribution to regional security by participating in the NATO multinational battle group in Lithuania. The officials also discussed further cooperation in the field of security, the energy sector and the economy in general.

In a conversation with the Prime Minister of Ireland, Leo Varadkar, Siliņa positively assessed the excellent cooperation between the two countries so far, expressing the opinion that it is necessary to continue and increase support for Ukraine within the framework of the European Union, as well as to demand responsibility from Russia for the criminal war it started.
A plenary session, round table discussions and bilateral meetings were held as part of the EPC meeting. The heads of 47 countries or their governments from 27 EU member states and 20 non-EU countries have been invited to the EPK meeting. At the EPK meeting, the leaders’ discussions focused on Russia’s war against Ukraine and its global consequences.
