If for Visvaldis Asaris one of the strongest sources of inspiration is the nature and land of Latvia, then Baiba Ābelīte is fascinated by the rhythm and dynamics of the urban environment. The name of the exhibition “Connections” has several meanings. First of all, the two authors – Visvaldis Asari and Baibu Ābelīte – are united by close family ties, because they are father and daughter, also in the same professions, and although they work in different manuscripts, they have created this exhibition as a whole, says Visvaldis Asaris: If Baiba is such a real explosive, a reflector of the urban environment, then I am down to earth, I have this theme of the earth, such portraits of the earth. is the same. “
Baiba Ābelīte’s paintings are made of metal and, looking at them, there is an almost physical feeling of dynamics and rhythm caused by the ornaments of the industrial constructions seen in the paintings. The painter says that she is inspired by the urban environment, metal constructions in the city, abandoned factories, where you can still feel some stagnant but very strong energy: “My workshop is also located in Sarkandaugava, in the room” Provodnik “. and get impressions.I also drive around the city, I see more structures, bridges, metal bars.
I like to see the beautiful in it. That is how I encourage positive thinking in myself.
In creating my works, I combine the environment, the space and my inner state and transform it in such a way that the viewer can enter into it as if it were a different reality. “
The “Overly” application, which complements Baiba Ābelīte’s works, will also help the viewer to get to another reality. Using it, the works will come to life and allow you to enter the painter’s enchanted world even more directly. The artist explains: “I try to work more innovatively, so my works will also have a digital side. Technically, it will be very simple.
Visvaldis Asaris believes that the digital side of his daughter’s works with an industrial theme fits very well and organically. He has not used it in his paintings himself, but they are well described by a set of concepts he has written on one of the stands in the exhibition hall, and almost all of these concepts are derived from the word “land”. Land and Fatherland is also the main image of his exhibition works.
Visvaldis Asari is inspired by the nature of Latvia, the newly plowed land, the mood of the seasons, and this is also reflected in the texture, colors and special atmosphere of his paintings. The artist says: “The land is the basis of our cultural space. Suppose we go to Iceland, Greece or Italy, we see the land there in completely different colors and moods.
We have our own Latvian color palette code. We feel comfortable in these colors, so that’s our difference.
These are the brown-gray-golden tones. And I don’t want to avoid them, if we have them. In my works, there is basically a portrait of the earth, a portrait of the plowed land. My works are as if from above, as if from a bird’s eye view. And then through the theme of winter, early spring or autumn, mature, harvest time. And these tones are not accidental. I live in nature a lot and see these events in nature. And every one of my images has its own earthly event, which I have recorded. “
One painting was inspired by the late autumn mood, when the ground is in cool tones, because it has already begun to be covered by the first layer of ice, while another is golden and warm mature, when the ground is full of fertility.
Visvaldis Asaris has such earth stories about every work, but since he does not give names to the paintings, each viewer is open to his own interpretation. Even looking at the most beautiful work in the exhibition in saturated red shades, about which the artist says: “It could be just as good a simple red sunset and just as good – our land, historically saturated with the blood of our ancestors. In principle, the works can also be perceived as abstract compositions.”
The joint exhibition of Baiba Ābelīte and Visvaldis Asara “Connections” in the exhibition hall “Riga Art Space” can be seen until February 6 next year.
