“Thinking about the theater, I have clearly defined that the Latvian National Theater is the main mouthpiece of our nation, which must speak freely, meaningfully and powerfully,” emphasizes Senkovs, revealing the plans for the new season. “One must be able to point out the social, political and human problems of society that are currently affecting us. The mission of the theater is basically to create a clash through the works of various authors. We want to carry out an act of self-revelation in the theater, or promote an open conversation with ourselves. We try to confront ourselves not only with our thoughts, but also yourself with the surrounding environment. Constantly in the process of searching and searching for yourself, moving forward and developing the art of theater as an art direction. The Latvian National Theater is not a boulevard theater, it is the main stage of Latvian theater. And that’s why we will treat it with respect by offering the 105th season .”
This season, between two canonical works of great authors – Raini’s “Pūt, vējini!” and Blaumaņi’s “Skroderdienim in Silmači” – many new artists will debut at the National Theatre, the productions in the New and Actor’s Hall will be led by debutants only. On the other hand, the Great Hall will be dedicated to the works of Latvia’s most current and brightest directors.
In the new season, the play “Peter Pan. Syndrome” by guest director Dmitrijs Krimovs will also be shown. Krymov is one of the strongest world directors of recent times, who is able to look at what is happening quite sharply, accurately and critically, without losing the most essential thing – at the center of everything is a person and his experienced, pained and hopeful view of a brighter future.
