The Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) will conclude its 97th concert season at the Great Guild on Friday, May 19, at 19.00 with an exciting program of symphonic music led by artistic director and chief conductor Tarmo Peltokoski. It will be possible to hear the concert program on the stage of the Great Guild in full performance also the day before – on May 18 at 19.00 – which is an additional concert announced due to the interest shown by the audience. Finnish soprano Anu Komsi will join the orchestra on stage. This is Peltokoski’s first concert season as artistic director and principal conductor of the LNSO. The next time we will see him at the LNSO console is in August at the festival “LNSO vasarnīca”, which will take place at the Latgale embassy in GORS.

In the repertoire of the final concert of the season, the orchestra has included the works of two outstanding symphonists of the 20th century. The rich creative life of Richard Strauss, who witnessed the most vivid and tragic events of the previous century’s history with his own eyes, resulted in the “Four Last Songs” with the poetry of Hermann Hesse and Josef von Eichendorff. On the other hand, Dmitri Shostakovich’s Tenth Symphony, like all the composer’s works, has always been a mysterious and deeply symbolic mirror of both political and internal experiences, which is also relevant in today’s socio-political scene.

A Finnish soprano will take the stage in the performance of Strauss’s songs The Komsi. During her career, she has performed with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC London Symphony Orchestra, the Milan “The Staircase“udc orchestras

Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski In January 2022, he was appointed principal guest conductor of the Bremen German Chamber Philharmonic, becoming the first owner of such a title in the orchestra’s 42-year history. In May of the same year, it was decided that from 2022/2023 Peltokoski will be the artistic director and chief conductor of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra for the 2018 concert season (with the LNSO, Peltokoski will spend two more concert seasons). Soon after, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra also announced Peltokoski as the orchestra’s principal guest conductor.

Tickets for the LNSO season finale concert on May 19 are sold out, but the last tickets for the concert on May 18 are still available. They are available at “Bilešu paradīze” sales points, as well as on the Internet – https://www.bilesuparadize.lv/lv/event/128179

On the other hand, on August 19 and 20, the LNSO summer festival “Vasarnīca” will take place at the Latgale embassy in GORS. Tarmo Peltokoski will be seen on stage at the festival both at the conductor’s desk and in the role of a soloist at the piano, something never seen before in Latvia. The special guest of the festival will be the extravagant London pianist James Sherlock. Additional information about the festival can be found here: https://www.bilesuparadize.lv/lv/custompage/3501
