Latvian National Armed Forces (NBS) Debunks Russian Propaganda Fear-Mongering

Therefore, the NBS calls for a critical assessment of the tendentious speculations that have appeared in the information space from various sources about a possible increase in threats in Europe, including Latvia.

Also, NBS invites you not to share these messages further, so as not to support the Russian propaganda machine in its attempts to sow fear about a possible Russian attack on Latvia or another NATO member state.

The NBS also points out that the Russian military’s inability to win and the huge losses of resources in the more than two-year-long war in Ukraine show its systemic weakness and stagnation at all levels of its command. In addition, in order for Russia to attack one of the member states, it is necessary that several preconditions be fulfilled and a specific situation be created. Therefore, the NBS draws attention to the fact that such preconditions for Russian aggression against NATO members do not exist.

NBS reminds that Latvia has been a member of the strongest alliance in the world for almost 20 years. An attack on Latvia would mean an attack on all member states, which would be followed by an immediate reaction from NATO.

Recently, populist speculations about the inability of the NBS to protect the country have been voiced in the Latvian information space by various opinion-makers from Latvia and abroad. Therefore, the NBS calls on the public to keep a cool head, not to share or reinforce such messages – especially those spread by persons who are no longer serving in the armed forces, or have not been associated with the defense industry at all. By sharing questionable messages, these individuals unknowingly or knowingly do a disservice to Russia’s aggressive propaganda messages.
