If the IIHF does not implement any changes at its own discretion, Latvia will have to meet with the Canadian world vice-champions, as well as the national teams of the USA, Switzerland, Slovakia, Norway, Kazakhstan and Slovenia, in the group round of the World Cup in Riga. In the second group, the championship will start in Tampere current champion and host Finland, which will be joined by Sweden, the Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, France, Austria and Hungary.
The place in the world championship is still not reserved for the aggressor countries Russia and Belarus.
Just like the World Cup in Finland, it made minimal changes to the IIHF rankings. At the top of the ranking, the closest competitor to the Olympic and world champion Finland is still the Canadian national team. The only change in the TOP10 is the rise of the Czech bronze winners to the 6th place, ahead of Switzerland.
The IIHF plans to publish the schedule and information on ticket sales for the next World Cup in the coming months.
It has already been reported that the 2023 World Championships will take place in Tampere and Riga from 12 to 28 May. One group match and two quarterfinals will take place in Riga, while the other fights, including the medal finals, will take place in Tampere.
The Latvian national team finished the 2022 World Championship in 10th place.
