Latvian Hip-Hop Pioneer Talks Competition and Myths in the Genre

I began to take things more lightly, I wrote songs simply so that I, first of all, liked them myself.

You returned to the time when the hip-hop genre began to experience its victory march in Latvia. Do you feel any competition with other domestic rappers? Do you still have a friendly and cooperative relationship?

I have a lot of respect for a lot of the creative people and hip-hop artists that have come after me in the game.

I think the main boss of our genre is ansis.

roland che has done a lot. Wiesulis, Prusax, “New Wavy”, xantique, Gustavo is back too – great to see him back. There are many notable MCs. We are on good or very good terms with most of them. In principle, we all continue the path we started, and it is interesting for me to watch how this genre evolves. I don’t feel any envy from my side, at least towards those guys who really do it and who behave adequately.

What are the most common myths you’ve heard about members of the hip-hop genre?

Hard to say. I mean, if we were in interviews all the time exhausted or in a pile, then it would also be a myth that everyone [reperi] are drunkards, but by watching the interview, you can already understand whether he is sober or not, what he is saying, how he is speaking and why. I have never heard such a pronounced myth about representatives of this genre.
