Latvian highway cyclist Christ Neilands next week will make its debut on the prestigious multi-day cycling tour “Tour de France”, informs the team of “Israel Start-Up Nation”, which he represents.
The 26-year-old Neiland has participated in the Giro d ‘Italia for the past two years, winning the high fifth place in one of the stages last year.
This year he has shown active performance on the Paris-Nice, Strade Bianche and Criterium du Dauphine cycling routes. The team describes Kuldīga as a strong driver both in the mountains and in sprint.
One of the team’s goals was to get on the Tour de France with an Israeli cyclist. I am pleased that we have achieved this goal together and can be part of that path. I really appreciate the fact that the team trusted me and gave me this opportunity. I think we will participate with a quite strong team and do great things together, ”the team quotes Neiland.
Last year, for the first time in his career, Neilands was recognized as the best cyclist of the year in Latvia. In turn, he was recognized as the rising star of the year at the “Latvian Sports of the Year Award 2019”.
The Tour de France will start next Saturday and end on September 20 in the Champs Elysées.
Last year, Latvia was represented on the French tour by Toms Skujiņš, who was in the 81st position in the overall rating. Carnikaval also has a good chance to start this year’s “Tour de France”.
