On October 12, the 16th Latvian Fashion of the Year Award Ceremony took place at the Digital Art Center, where the winners of 13 nominations were announced. The brand “For lovers and trees” won the “Debut of the Year” award. In the nomination “The most creative fashion show”, the fashion show of the designer of the Latvian brand “One Wolf” Agnese Narnicka, which took place in the streets of Riga, was awarded.
Taking into account that the past year has become an impetus for the development of the digital industry, the nominations have been joined by the position “For the best digital presentation”, in which Reinis Krūmiņš was awarded with the digital fashion show “Everything visible from the invisible begins”. The stylist and creator of the Volga Vintage brand Sergejs Hatanzejskis won the award in the category “The most original multimedia design of the fashion show of the year”. In turn, Latvian half-seam clothing brand “Iveta Vecmane” won the award “Best image of the advertising campaign”.
In the nomination “The Best Contemporary Jewelry Designer of the Year”, the members of the jury unanimously named the brand “Maija Vītola”. “When I cut materials by hand, it seems to me that the material tells its own story, allowing me to create works that are unique sculptural representations of my world. Jewelry becomes a link between the perception of the world and people,” said brand designer Maija Vītola.
Focusing on ethical and environmental issues, one of the nominations for the award is dedicated to a responsible approach to the creation of clothing collections – “The best sustainable fashion brand”. The winner was the Baiba Ladiga brand. The designer works with natural materials, paying special attention to quality and following waste-free (zero-waste) fashion principle.
The award “The Most Original Cover of a Fashion and Lifestyle Magazine” was received by the art and fashion magazine “Jezga”. In the category “RFW’s most popular model in 2020”, the jury members singled out two girls from the modeling agency “Vacatio” – Cindy Schulz and Amanda Kruze.
Asnate Smeltere, a fashion artist and author of the book “Fifty Years in Riga Fashion”, received the award for her contribution to the development of the fashion industry in Latvia.
This fall Riga Fashion Week will take place from 12 to 16 October.
