Latvian Egg Producer APF Holdings Predicts Doubling of Demand for Barn-Laid Eggs

APF Holdings (APF), which includes one of the largest Baltic egg producers, Alūksne Poultry Farm, predicts that the demand for eggs laid directly in barns in Latvia will grow significantly this year, which may even double from approximately 36 million. last year up to 70-75 million this year, taking into account that supermarket chains will continue to abandon the sale of caged eggs during the year. Also, APF predicts that egg prices in Latvia will be stable this year, remaining at the level of 2023.

“Currently, the proportion of eggs laid in cages in some supermarket chains still exceeds 50%, and by gradually changing this amount to eggs laid in barns, the demand for number 2 (eggs laid in barns) eggs in Latvia may even double, which will give a positive impetus to the development of Latvian egg producers. APF Holdings already more than 60% of eggs produced are eggs laid in barns, and after the introduction of two new chicken houses into operation by the end of this year, the proportion of eggs laid in our barns will increase to 75%,” says Hermanis Dovgijs, APF Holdings Member of the Board.
