Latvian director Rainer Sarnet’s film “Invisible Fight” / Article is made in Latvia

Filming of the Estonian director Rainer Sarnet’s film “The Invisible Fight” will start in Latvia in September, the filmmakers informed. Work with the participation of Latvian actors is planned in Riga, Liepaja and Straupe.

Estonian director Rainer Sarnet’s feature film Invisible Fight is a co-production of Estonia, Latvia, Germany, Finland and Greece. Director Rainer Sarnet is also well-known in Latvia, his previous film “November” won the main prize of the Riga International Film Festival (Riga IFF) in the autumn of 2017 and in total has won more than 20 international and national awards.

The film “Invisible Fight” has been announced as a “kungfu comedy” taking place in an Orthodox monastery in the Soviet Union in the 1970s. The heroes of the movie kungfu have a way to overcome their personal demons – pride, arrogance and lust.

Most of the film is shot in Latvia, moreover, the participation of Latvian film professionals is planned in the creation of the film’s visuals (artist Mārtiņš Straupe, costume designer Berta Vilipsone and make-up artist Maija Gundare work in the film’s shooting group).

The film is made with the support of the National Film Center and co-financed by the Riga Film Foundation, it is planned as a co-production of five countries – Estonia (Homeless Bob Production), Latvia (White Picture), Germany (The Post Republic), Rapid Eye Movies ”), Finland (“ Helsinki Filmi ”) and Greece (“ Neda Film ”). In the spring of 2021, the project was also approved for co-financing by the European Fund Eurimages.

“White Picture” is a new studio, founded in January 2020 by producer Alise Ģelze, starting her creative and professional work independently of the studio “Tasse Film”. Currently, “White Picture” is working on the preparation of the production of Juris Kursieš’s third feature film “Barbari”, as well as work on the development of the debut feature films of directors Armands Začs and Tīna Zariņa.

The film “Invisible Fight” will reach the audience in the autumn of 2023.
