In the first games, the Latvian duo conceded to Finland (3: 8) and Japan (2: 8) on Sunday. In the group of seven teams, Latvians must compete on Tuesday with the United States and South Korea, who have never lost.
The National Qualifiers for Mixed Couples feature national teams from 14 countries divided into two groups. After the round, the three strongest teams in each group will advance to the knockout tournament, where two tickets to Beijing will be distributed. For eight countries, participation in the Mixed Doubles Olympic Tournament is guaranteed without qualifying.
Latvia will also be represented in the Olympic qualifiers in the Dutch city of Leeuwarden in the women’s tournament, where the games are scheduled for December 11-18, with nine teams claiming to win one of the last three tickets to Beijing. The Latvian men’s national unit did not go beyond pre-qualification.
The Beijing Winter Olympics are scheduled for February 4-20.
