The fluctuation of the result in the amplitude of almost 40 points – the first game of the Latvian Cup competition allowed the supporters of both teams to rejoice, but in the end Cēsis smiled. BC “Cēsis” / “Cēsis Sports School” won in the field in Kraslava with the result 91:77, laying the foundation for success in the sum of two games.

After a break of 26 years, the renewed Latvian Cup was introduced by an energetic opening ceremony, which was attended by the Chairman of Kraslava City Council Gunārs Upenieks, President of LBS Raimonds Vējonis and the director of the Latvian basketball leagues Kristaps Janičenoks.
The beginning of the first game reminded that the cup does not recognize the favorites – last year the team of Krāslava, which finished only 9th in LBL3 East last year, reached the advantage of 19 points in the middle of the first half against the vice-champions Cēsis (34:15). However, the leaders’ power was not enough for the whole game, while the Cēsis basketball players adapted better and better and restored their balance even before the big break. The point-to-point fight lasted until the 30th minute, but in the last ten minutes the guests gained a solid advantage.
The winning team beat the opponents in the fight against the baskets (rebounds 59-71), as well as more often earned opportunities to throw penalties (14/27 – 30/43).
Elvis Saulītis scored 20 points for Cēsis team and won 14 balls, Didzis Mališevs 16 + 10, Reinis Rudzītis – 16 points.
For Krāslava team Rolands Nārķis scored 22 points, Gustavs Mellenbergs scored 20 points and won 18 balls.
The winners of this pair will play with OC “Limbaži” team in the 2nd round.

The stubble team reached a personal record last year, with LBL3 taking 5th place in the main tournament in the Eastern Zone. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, there was no opportunity to enjoy the taste of the playoffs, which the stubble hopes to enjoy in the cup matches.
“We have not looked for an addition, we want to. Our own team uses the opportunity to play in the cup competition,” says the team’s head coach Lauris Krēmers. “In the summer, the players trained individually and participated in the Gulbene summer league, where the games took place in 4×4 format. Since mid-August, we have resumed team training, we just played a test game with the Rezekne team. The excitement around our duel is great – it will be a big event in Rugaja.
Last year, “Garkalne Runči” became the champions of the Maximibasball League in the age group 40+. Participation in the cup means that players who have left their mark in the Latvian Basketball League, such as Andis Pogiņš, Māris citikovskis and Normunds Feierbergs, the world champion in streetball Raimonds Fūrmanis, but the loudest word in the “game” UBLis first season champion Uldis Valneris will make his debut as the main coach.
September 19 at 5 pm BC “Liepāja” / LSSS – Iecavas “Dartija”
A valuable opportunity for the new change of Liepāja residents to test their strength against the traditional favorites of the Regional League.
Iecavas “Dartija” is one of the most stable values of the Regional League. In the 3rd division of LBL, the first place was won in 2013, 2015 and 2016, but last year “Dartija” finished at the top of the table in the Western zone.
The fourth couple will take part in the fight on Wednesday, September 23, when the basketball school “Riga” team will host the Tukums unit at the “Daugava” sports house. In the first round, the winners will be determined by the sum of two games.
