Latvian basketball players lose in the eighth final, U-19 World Cup competition for the 9th place / Article

Latvian U-19 basketball players lost their Senegalese peers with 44:57 in the eighth final of the World Cup in Daugavpils on Wednesday and will continue to fight for the 9th place in the continuation of the tournament, according to the organizers.

For the home team, Richard Daniel Vanags was the scorer in the first round of the elimination round with 10 points, while Babakar Kane scored 17 points in the Senegal team. The Senegalese survived without their leader Ibu Badži, who went to the pre-darts training of the National Basketball Association (NBA) even before the game against Latvia.

In the next round, Latvian juniors will play against the losers of the US and South Korean matches in Riga on Friday.

In the physical and ineffective game, the Latvians were never in the lead against Senegal, although they were able to recover from the start of an unsuccessful match, when they came in with 4:17. Three minutes before the end of the first half, the Latvian national team reached 20:20, however, by the end of the third quarter, the Senegalese secured a nine-point lead (38:29) and kept the lead at the end of the game.

It has already been reported that in the tournament group round, the Latvian national team lost to Puerto Rico and Serbia, but beat their Iranian peers. After the group round, all 16 teams made it to the eighth final, where the winning teams will continue to fight for medals, while the other teams will split the lowest places.
