Latvian Basketball Player Zhan Peiners Overcomes Career-Ending Heart Condition: An Inspiring Journey

In the “When they meet” studio, the ladies invited an inspiring and attractive couple – Alina and Zhan Peiners – to a conversation. Žanis is an outstanding Latvian basketball player who, due to his professional activities, has lived in several countries around the world, enjoying a luxury lifestyle. Unfortunately, his professional career was put to an end due to cardiac arrhythmia.

“I didn’t start crying, but it was one of those times in my life when I got a lump in my throat. Although [situāciju] it was hard to digest, as time went on, I found how to reconcile it all,” Payner says about the end of his career.

Because of his heart arrhythmia, he has always tried to be calm – if he worries, it will not improve anything. “I’m trying to follow the doctor’s instructions and get it [sirdi] back into rhythm. For example, sometimes exhale and stand up. In childhood, moments when something took your mind off it helped. It can’t be anything special – it works when a person enters the hall or the doctor suddenly asks something. When you start answering
[sirds] bounce back.”

Žanis remembers that he felt the symptoms of cardiac arrhythmia more during the sampling period, which was mainly influenced by the high level of stress. After the diagnosis, he went to every game with concerns about his health and, when leaving the field, tried to move a little next to the bench to keep his pulse in the same rhythm.
