Egliens announced last year that he was leaving the Latvian National Theater, where he had been since 2000, but now he has turned to a new occupation – he composes music.
“We are currently in the process. Together with my wife Dita and my colleague Gundars Grasbergs, we are making a new play with the poetry of Jānis Peters. I am writing the music for this show myself and I really hope that soon we will be able to see and celebrate the premiere at the music house “Daile”! This is the main thing I deal with on a daily basis,” Egliens reveals to “Kas Jauns” magazine.
The actor does not hide that he is currently not offered roles either in theater or cinema, so he realizes himself in music, which he previously did just for fun. “I would be more than happy to accept, but at the moment, unfortunately, no one is offering,” said Egliens.
We remind you that Eglien has been struggling with health problems for two years. The Council of Latvian Doctors prescribed the actor a procedure to be performed in a German clinic, but it required financial support. In order for the actor to regain his ability to speak, a donation campaign was started on February 14 last year, and the necessary amount was collected within a couple of hours. He has been diagnosed with a rare disease of the larynx in Germany and doctors have told him that he will have to inject Botox into the muscle around his vocal cords for the rest of his life.
