At the Latvian Academy of Culture, applications for bachelor’s and master’s studies began on July 14, and so far almost 400 young people have confirmed their desire to study.
“The biggest demand is again for interdisciplinary programs.
Intercollegiate programs, which are our creative industries, and that breakthrough is evident. Cultural sociology is also among the leaders at the moment. Its interest and number of applications has doubled!”
says Rūta Muktupāvela, Rector of the Latvian Academy of Culture.
Young people who want to become actors and directors gather in the courtyard of the Academy of Culture. For them, the first consultation is about admission procedures.
When asked why he wants to become an actor, future student Mārtiņš Mikožans says: “I don’t know, but I’ve been dreaming about it for a long time and I’ve decided. It’s mine, and why not try?” Kristians Gërmanis joins him: “Also! In fact, a childhood dream. A very versatile profession. Very encompassing. Forces yourself to grow.”
“It’s exciting and it’s been in me for a while. I make performances and I want to develop this skill,” says future student Elizabete Kokareviča. “I’ve been going to the theater since I can remember, and it’s a slightly different world, which I’ve already entered a little bit, but I’d like to go even deeper,” says Agate Greenhoff about her desire to study.
Admission to the art program for actors and directors of the dramatic theater takes place only once every three years. The future stage artists course will be led by Indra Roga and Elmārs Senkovs.
“Obviously we
we are looking for open, talented, creative, free-thinking young people who are not afraid of themselves and who are not afraid of us, who are not afraid of the audience.
However, the measurement of this talent takes place through many and different tasks,” says Indra Roga, head of the acting sub-program of the Dramatic Theater.
The number of people who want to study at the Latvian Academy of Arts has also doubled this year. The most requested branch is the “Movement. Image. Sound” sub-branch of the Audio-Visual Media Art Department.
Many also want to learn graphic design and restoration. The number of applications is consistently high for the painting department, but Environmental Art is at the top this year – the number of applications for this department has tripled.
On the other hand, at the Jázeps Vītolas Music Academy, more than 300 people who want to study have applied for various programs, which is also much more than last year. There is a lot of interest in the renewed and supplemented bachelor’s study program “Music and performing arts”.
