Tokyo, July 27, LETA. The Latvian 3×3 basketball team with Agni Čavars, Nauri Mieze, Kārlis Pauls Lasmanis and Edgars Krūmiņš won Japan in the quarterfinals of the Tokyo Olympic Games on Tuesday and will play in the semifinals.

Latvia beat Japan with 21:18.

The first point in the game with a pass was scored by Miezis after 14 seconds – 1: 0.

The Latvians played to the bottom of the basket, and after Krūmiņš’s throw, Latvia reached 4: 1. After Krūmiņš’s long shot – also 6: 1 after a minute and 22 seconds played.

However, after a little more than two minutes, Latvia already had four violations of the rules, but after a while Lasmanis also deserves a technical note.

However, Krūmiņš was unstoppable, after which Latvia scored 10: 4 after three minutes from the bottom of the basket.

After two accurate long shots, the Japanese reached 11:14 less than six minutes before the end of the game.

Lasmanis responded to another long shot by Keisei Tominaga with a basket and a free throw – 16:13.

As the game continued with a one – two point advantage over Latvia, the decisive factor was the Japanese player ‘s violation against Miezi, who was already the seventh. The first of the two free throws was accurate and worth the victory – 21:18.

Latvian basketball players scored 12 of the 15 single-point shots, while the Japanese were accurate in all seven attempts. In long-range throws, 50% of throws were sold to Latvia (3/6), to Japan – 45% (5/11). In turn, both teams executed free throws perfectly – Latvia three, Japan – one.

The Latvians had more assists (6: 3) and a rebound (8: 4), but the only time in the match the throw was blocked by the Japanese player Ira Brown.

Latvia made four mistakes, and the Japanese made six mistakes.

Krūmiņš became the most productive basketball player of the game with nine points, seven points for Lasmanis, four – for Miezis, who also has five assists and three rebounds, while this time Chavar has one point.

Tominaga scored eight points for Japan, who also scored three times. Five points for Rjuto Yasuokas, four points for Brown.

Latvia will meet with Belgium in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

In the group tournament, Latvia won the hosts of the Olympic Games with the result 21:18.

It has already been reported that on Tuesday, in the last group game, Latvia defeated the Netherlands with 22:18, securing the third place in the group.

On Saturday, Latvians defeated Poland with 21:14, but with 20:21 acknowledged the superiority of Belgium, on Sunday Latvian basketball players defeated China with 18:17 and defeated Japan with 21:18, but on Monday they conceded to Serbia with 16:22 and with 15:19 – Russia Olympic Committee (OKR) unit.

Serbia finished the group tournament with an impeccable balance – seven victories in seven games – but Belgium, Latvia and the Netherlands had four successes, with the teams taking places in this order according to the additional scores. The OKR team followed with three victories, but Japan, Poland and China had two wins, with the last two teams remaining out of the play – offs.

In case of an equal number of points, the teams were first ranked according to the results of the games between the participating teams (only wins / losses, not taking into account the points gained / lost). The average number of points scored in all tournament games was then taken into account (excluding extra points).

Serbia will meet the team of the Russian Olympic Committee (OKR) in the second semi-final, which beat the Netherlands in the quarter-finals at 21:19 on Tuesday.

The rules of the tournament stipulate that all eight teams start the round tournament at the beginning. The top two enter the semi-finals immediately, while the third to sixth place owners start the elimination tournament from the quarter-finals.

The tournament will end on Wednesday.
