“Latvia wins historic bronze medal at 2023 World Cup, thanks to hero Kristians Rubins”

This is the beautiful story of the 2023 World Cup. Latvia had reached the semi-finals of a major international tournament for the first time (Olympic and World Games). And, Sunday in Tampere (Finland), after having yielded little, the day before, against Canada, she won the bronze medal, beating the United States (4-3 ap). Again, a great first in its history.

The hero of the day was defender Kristians Rubins (25), who scored his team’s last two goals. The first five minutes from the end of regulation time, to equalize at 3-3, and the second in extra time to give victory to Latvia. A nightmare for the United States, undoubtedly the most beautiful team of the World Championship, but which finally left Finland without having won a medal.
