By the end of the summer, Latvia will receive an additional 210,000 additional doses of Pfizer / BioNTech vaccines against Covid-19, Sintija Gulbe, a representative of the Ministry of Health, informed LETA.
On Wednesday, the President of the European Commission (EC) Urzula von der Leiena announced that the EC intends to conclude an agreement with a pharmaceutical company “Pfizer” through Covid-19 supply of vaccines by 2023. Pfizer / BioNTech plans to supply another 50 million doses of vaccine to the European Union (EU) in the second quarter of this year, in addition to the 200 million doses already planned in the EU under the agreement.
The Minister of Health Daniels Pavļuts (AP) noted that at the same time Latvia’s vaccination capacity has been significantly increased, which is provided by family doctors, paramedic points, medical institutions and large vaccination centers in more than 860 places throughout Latvia. “We are ready to use the additional vaccines we receive and protect our people,” the politician said.

As reported, on April 1, the so-called EU Solidarity Agreement was reached in the Permanent Representatives Committee of the Council of the EU (COREPER), which provides that Latvia will receive an additional 406,283 doses of Pfizer / BioNTech vaccines in the second quarter of this year.
In total, Latvia has applied for vaccines from seven manufacturers – Pfizer / BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, CureVac, Novavax and Valneva.
