Latvia to Allocate 250,000 Euros for Major Sports Events: Boosting Recognition and Economic Growth

It is planned to allocate 250,000 euros for each event.

The draft of the regulations mentions that organizing sports events of this scale is a great opportunity to show the world Latvia’s ability to successfully organize large sports events. This will not only promote Latvia’s recognition around the world and create favorable ground for the organization of many and various events in Latvia, but will also bring a significant positive contribution to the state budget and overall economic growth, predicts the Ministry of Education and Science (IZM).

Funding is planned to be allocated from the state budget program “Funds for unforeseen cases”.

It has already been reported that on November 27, 2023, the International Basketball Federation Association (FIBA) announced the organizers of the qualifying group tournaments for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, including Latvia – six teams will participate in the tournament, a total of nine games will be played.

The IIHF Women’s World Championship (WC) in the IB division will be held in Latvia from March 31 to April 6, and the Winter Olympic Games selection tournament for men – from August 29 to September 1.

The IB Division Championship is the third strongest championship after Elite and IA Division. Six teams play in it.
