Latvia still has one of the lowest rates of Covid-19 incidence in Europe

Over the past two weeks, Latvia has maintained its 25th place among the 30 countries of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) with the highest infection rates with Covid-19, according to data compiled by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

Also in the previous week, Latvia was in the 25th place, but before two weeks it was in the 24th place.

ECDC estimates of the situation in the previous two weeks from 16 to 29 August show that the cumulative morbidity per 100,000 population in Latvia has risen to 115.17, but it is still lower than in most EU and EEA countries.

The highest incidence rates in the EU and EEA are in Ireland at 504 cases per 100,000 population, followed by Cyprus, Greece and France with more than 400 cases. The lowest incidence rate is in Poland with 7.7 cases per 100,000 population. The average incidence rate in the EU and EEA countries is currently 199.3 cases per 100,000 population.

In Estonia, the infection rate per 100,000 population has risen to 334.4 cases in the last two weeks, and in Lithuania to 288.4 cases, according to ECDC data.

In Latvia, the 14-day mortality rate with diagnosed Covid-19 has increased and at the end of the previous week it was 6.3 cases per one million inhabitants. We are currently 17th among the EU and EEA countries in this respect.

The highest mortality with diagnosed Covid-19 per one million population in the last two weeks was in Bulgaria – 55.7 cases. The corresponding figure is 36.9 in Lithuania and nine in Estonia.

For the third week in a row, Latvia is in the orange zone of the travel warning card created by ECDC, which indicates to travelers an average risk of Covid-19 infection. Estonia and Lithuania are in the red area of ​​this map.

Only Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary are currently in the green zone, indicating a low risk of infection.-

The dark red area, which indicates a very high risk of infection, includes Cyprus, as well as several regions in France, Greece and Ireland.
