Latvia still has one of the lowest prevalence rates of Covid-19 in Europe / Day

In the previous two weeks, Latvia was in eighth place.

ECDC estimates of the situation in the previous two weeks from 26 July to 8 August show that the cumulative incidence per 100,000 population in Latvia has risen to 49.3 cases, but it is still lower than in most EU and EEA countries.

The highest incidence rates in the EU and EEA are still in Cyprus, at 930.6 cases per 100,000 population, followed by Spain with more than 600 cases. The lowest incidence rate is in Poland with 5.1 cases per 100,000 population. The average incidence rate in the EU and EEA is currently 209.4 cases per 100,000 population.

In Estonia, the infection rate has risen to 203.1 cases per 100,000 population in the last two weeks, and to 202.5 cases in Lithuania, according to ECDC data.

In Latvia, the 14-day mortality rate with diagnosed Covid-19 has decreased and at the end of the previous week it was 4.7 cases per million population. In addition, if previously Latvia was among the five EU and EEA countries with the highest mortality for a long time, now we have dropped to 11th place, because in many European countries the mortality with diagnosed Covid-19 is increasing again. The highest mortality with diagnosed Covid-19 per million population in the past two weeks was in Cyprus – 42.8 cases.

The corresponding figure is 7.9 in Lithuania and 4.5 in Estonia.

Latvia is also the only one of the Baltic States still in the green zone of the travel warning card created by ECDC, which indicates to travelers a low risk of Covid-19. Estonia is in the red area of the map, while in Lithuania it includes the Vilnius region, while the rest of Lithuania is in the orange area of the map.

The green zone currently covers more than a third of the EU and EEA territory, while the rest is at increased risk of infection with Covid-19.

These include the dark red area, which indicates a very high risk of infection, in Cyprus, almost all regions in Spain, as well as a number of regions in France, Greece and Ireland.

The Travel Alert Card is designed to make it easier for travelers to understand the level of infection in different parts of Europe.
