On Friday, September 24, a barbed wire fence donated by the Slovenian Ministry of Defense was delivered to Kraslava region, which the National Armed Forces (NAF) will deploy to protect the Latvian border on the state border with Belarus, the Ministry of Defense informed.
The materials for the construction of the barbed wire fence – barbed wire “Concertina”, metal poles, fasteners and other elements – were delivered to the Kraslava region from Slovenia in a container about seven meters long by truck through Hungary, Slovakia, Poland and Lithuania.
Soldiers of the Battle Support Battalion of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade of the NAF Land Forces will start the construction of the barbed wire fence on Monday, September 27. “The National Armed Forces is ready to build a barbed wire fence as soon as the State Border Guard informs where it needs to be installed,” Minister of Defense Artis Pabriks told the media (“For Development / About!”).
The Minister thanked his Slovenian counterpart for his understanding and support. At the same time, he expressed hope that in the near future the European Union would also change its policy and be able to provide material support for the improvement of the European Union’s external border.
