“Latvia Reaches First Ice Hockey World Championship Semi-Finals, Faces Canada Again”

The Latvian national team, which has won six games in a row, has reached the semi-finals for the first time, while the Canadian ice hockey players were without medals only once in the last seven world championships and played in the final six times. Last year, the Canadians lost to Finland in the title match, which this time they got revenge in the quarter-finals.

The national teams of Latvia and Canada already met in the group tournament in Riga, where the ice hockey players of the maple leaf were superior with 6:0.

In the second semi-final later on Saturday in Tampere, the national teams of USA and Germany will meet.

The winners of the semi-finals will fight for gold at the end of the championship on Sunday, while the losing teams will determine the bronze medal winners in the fight for 3rd place.

After failures at the start of the group tournament against Canada and Slovakia, the Latvian national team won all subsequent games in the group against the Czech Republic, Norway, Slovenia, Kazakhstan, Switzerland, and also beat Sweden in the quarter-finals.
