Latvia lowers the level of diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation – Politics

On January 23, 2023, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Latvia Mihails Vanins was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Russian ambassador was informed about Latvia’s decision to lower the level of diplomatic relations with Russia to the level of a plenipotentiary as of February 24, 2023.

The decision has been taken as Russia continues its full-scale military aggression against Ukraine that began on February 24, 2022, as well as in solidarity with Estonia and Lithuania.

The Russian ambassador must leave Latvia by February 24, 2023. The ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to Russia will leave Russia by February 24.
