Last week, Latvia was in 16th place according to the two-week cumulative indicator of Covid-19, but in the middle of June Latvia still had the highest incidence of Covid-19 in the EU.
ECDC estimates of the situation in the previous two weeks from 5 to 18 July show that the cumulative morbidity per 100,000 population in Latvia has decreased to 27.7 cases.
The highest incidence rates in the EU and EEA countries are currently in Cyprus at 1,483.6 cases per 100,000 population, followed by the Netherlands and Spain with more than 600 cases. The lowest incidence rate is in Poland with 3.1 cases per 100,000 population.
In Estonia, the infection rate per 100,000 population has risen to 50.79 cases in the last two weeks, and in Lithuania to 34.5 cases, according to ECDC data.
In Latvia, the 14-day mortality rate with a diagnosis of Covid-19 has also dropped significantly to 7.86 cases per million population at the end of the previous week.
However, Latvia is still among the five EU and EEA countries with the highest mortality. Only Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Portugal have had higher mortality rates per million population diagnosed with Covid-19 in the past two weeks.
