Latvia has received Johnson & Johnson vaccines, but for the time being they will not be available / Day

J&J announced on Tuesday that it would suspend the distribution of its vaccine in Europe, following a recommendation by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the US Food and Drug Administration to “pause” its use while investigating cases of thrombi in humans after receiving the vaccine. Thrombosis has occurred in six of the more than 6.8 million people who have received the J&J vaccine in the United States. The European Union has approved the J&J vaccine, which has become the fourth block approved vaccine.

Therefore, at present, these vaccines, which are already in Latvia, in a wholesaler, will not be available for vaccination of people with movement disorders next week, which is contrary to the current plan of the Ministry of Health.

“While the US authorities are investigating these cases in more detail, we are informed that the manufacturer will ask us not to use the vaccine,” the minister said. He pointed out that on Wednesday, April 14, the European Medicines Agency would hold joint talks, including with the participation of the Latvian analogous institution – the State Agency of Medicines.

These events therefore mean that a “B” plan will have to be sought to ensure that these patients are vaccinated, Pavluts explained.

Similar very rare cases of blood clots have already been reported with AstraZeneca. Both of these vaccines are vector vaccines.
