The construction of the fence and the infrastructure is progressing slightly ahead of schedule, said the head of VNĪ, Renars Grishkevichs.
Several organizations are involved in the implementation of the project to strengthen the eastern border. VNĪ is responsible for managing the construction process, especially for finding contractors through competition.
VNĪ was founded in 1996, and 100% of its shares belong to the Latvian state. The owner of the capital is the Ministry of Finance.
In July, Latvia reported that the fence on the Latvian-Belarusian border is almost 145 kilometers long raised.
The country’s eastern border is also being militarily strengthened – the Ministry of Defense has previously reported on “dragon’s teeth” and anti-tank hedgehogs massing there as part of the build-up Baltic line of defense.
