Latvia’s internal affairs services will hand over 12 drones to the Ukrainian police, the LETA agency was informed by the Ministry of the Interior.
At the end of the last working week, the Minister of Internal Affairs Rihards Kozlovskis (JV) met with the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihora Klimenko in Lithuania. The two ministers discussed the current situation in Ukraine and assistance to Ukraine and its civilians. In a bilateral conversation, the ministers discussed the experience of the internal affairs services of Ukraine in war conditions, emphasizing the importance of exchanging experience with the internal affairs services of Latvia.
In order to continue providing the necessary support to Ukraine, the Ministry of the Interior of Latvia, the State Police (SP), the State Border Guard and the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) follow the events in Ukraine and maintain constant contacts with Ukrainian government institutions.

During the meeting with Klimenko, Kozlovskis confirmed that the services of the Latvian Ministry of Internal Affairs will hand over 12 unmanned aerial vehicles to the State Police of Ukraine free of charge. The delivery of the shipment of drones handed over to VP and VUGD to Ukraine will be organized by VUGD.
Kozlovskis, the State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior Dimitrijs Trofimovs and the Chief of the State Border Guard General Guntis Pujats met in Vilnius with the Ministers of the Interior and the heads of the border guard services of all three Baltic States, Norway, Poland, Finland and Ukraine, to discuss the security situation in the region, as well as the current challenges and possible joint action.
During the meeting, a joint statement of the countries was adopted on the support of the Ukrainian people in the fight against Russian aggression, as well as the readiness to respond to the challenges in the region in a united and solidarity way.
During the visit, special attention is paid to issues such as hybrid threats, border security, migration, protection of critical infrastructure, as well as aid and support to Ukraine and Ukrainian civilians.
At the beginning of the visit, Kozlovskis signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Lithuanian Minister of the Interior Agni Bilotaiti on cooperation between Latvia and Lithuania in the fight against illegal migration. The memorandum envisages strengthening the cooperation between the police and border guard services of the two countries by creating common communication channels for coordination of action.
