Latvenergo: At the beginning of the year, the number of electric car charges has increased

In the first months of this year, compared to last year, the number of electric car charges and the amount of electricity charged in them has increased. Although there are limitations, charging has been facilitated by both the increase in the number of electric cars and the expansion of the charging network.

Summarizing the data of Elektrum’s public electric car charging points, it can be seen that the demand for electromobility has increased in the first three months of this year. In total, 1,742 recharges have been performed this year, last year the number was 1,283. The amount of recharged electricity has also increased accordingly – if last year it was 20 megawatt hours (MWh), then this year – already 29 MWh.

“This is probably one of the few areas where there has been a sharp increase during the pandemic. It is known that public attitudes towards electromobility in Latvia are constantly improving, as evidenced by both the increase in the number of electric cars and population surveys. , then at the end of the year their number had not only increased rapidly, but even doubled, reaching 1240, “says Ansis Valdovskis, Head of the Electric Transport Charging Network of Latvenergo AS.

According to the data, the number of charged kilowatt hours in the Elektrum network has increased every month. Since the start of the Elektrum charging network, customers have charged 115 MWh of electricity to their vehicles, ensuring 7917 successful electric charges. At least 640,000 km have been covered with environmentally friendly energy.

Users’ ability to charge their electric cars has increased significantly over the past year. If at the end of 2019 the number of Elektrum charging points was 7, then currently there are 36 ports in the Elektrum network, which are available in four cities: Riga, Jurmala, Liepaja and Aizkraukle.

By the end of 2021, Elektrum will have the largest commercial electric car charging network in Latvia, opening more than 84 ports both in Riga and in regional centers. All Elektrum charging stations pay for the used kilowatt hours (kWh), which is a convenient and accurate way for the customer to estimate the battery charge. Owners of electric cars also have the opportunity to purchase charging equipment and accessories for their household in the Elektrum online store.
