Latronquière. College: a new ecological science room

Definitely, La Chataigneraie college always has some nice surprises in store for us. We want proof of this in the new science room, the work of which was completed in April and which the students have invested in since then.

We had the opportunity to discover the decorations of the ceiling which represents the periodic table of the elements in our edition of February 15. The rest of the room is largely up to the ambitions of the teaching team, with its luminous niches filled with specimens and curiosities, as well as the display cases at the back of the room, dedicated to the natural sciences.

This unique project was carried out under the direction of Mr. Galvan, from the works department of the Lot department, according to an original idea by Aurore Mercadier, science teacher.

In this uniquely decorated room, the materials used give pride of place to ecology: Fermacell partitions, wood wool insulation, French tiles (reduction of the carbon footprint), non-emanating paint, etc.

Mrs Mercadier would like to thank the speakers from the Lot department who took the measure of this very original project, a real “showroom” of construction techniques respectful of the environment. For example, the original partition was moved back 30 centimeters to allow for the insertion of exhibition niches in its thickness.

The laboratory / reserve part, equipped with functional furniture whose drawers and doors are fitted with closing brakes, with a very practical central island for storing equipment in use. As for the study material, it is not left out with its ultramodern microscopes, the laptops that will be delivered soon, more suitable than the usual tablets.

Future students will be able to discover this superb environment next week during the welcome day for future college students, accompanied by their parents.

Enough to make us regret that we are no longer old enough to study in this extraordinary temple of science!
