The stories of each of the six wives of the infamous King of England Henry VIII make up the main plot of “SIX”, a musical that comes to Broadway with two Latinas at the helm.
After two years on tour, the two-time Tony Award-winning show brings an all-female cast to town. And among them are Didi Romero, born and raised in Puerto Rico, who shines as Katherine Howard; and Gabriela Carrillo, of Mexican descent, who captivates as Catherine Parr.
“Sharing the stage with these talented women has been an unforgettable experience. Since we started the tour through the United States, until we stopped here on Broadway, we have been able to create memories together and enjoy this musical where something new always happens,” said Romero.
Created by British writers, Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, it is a show aimed at all types of audiences. With pop-style songs that make the audience feel like they are in a singing competition, the six wives fight each other to be the lead singer of the band SIX, based on who suffered the most during her marriage to the King.

“Each of us has a beautiful voice and each of our characters is important because in the end, these women we represent were real and were more than wives of the King, and that is what we want to highlight about their lives. “Henry VIII is known thanks to his wives,” Carrillo noted.
During the reign of Henry VIII in the 16th century, the fate of these queens was linked to the complex political and religious dynamics of the time. Their marriages to the monarch not only shaped their lives, but also had a significant impact on the history of England, from religious conflicts to power struggles.
“Henry’s wives must be remembered for everything they meant to history, not just that of the King, but that of the world. This musical is a fun way to remember them and teach new generations about their lives,” Romero said.

The stories of these actresses are as inspiring as those of their characters, since each one comes from different places and cultures.
Gabriela Carrillo was born in Illinois to Mexican parents and discovered her passion for singing at an early age.
“I have always been an artist, I have played the violin since I was 3 years old, I was always in dance classes and I loved dressing up in different outfits. My first role on stage was when I was four years old and my role was the one that gave the play a comedic touch. There I realized that I like to make people laugh,” Carrillo explained.
Coming from a Mexican family, Carrillo grew up involved with her culture and is proud to be a Latina performing in a lead role on Broadway.
“Sometimes I thought there weren’t many characters for me, but the art of theater is always changing and being more inclusive,” added the young actress, whose career is not limited to theater, as she has participated in films and multiple television shows. , like “The Rose of Guadalupe”.
On the other hand, Didi Romero is from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, and remembers being exposed to theater by her family, who took her to see the shows that were presented on the island.

“The first show I saw was ‘In The Heights’ when it came to Puerto Rico and it was impressive. I couldn’t believe that there are people who make a living from doing theater. I remember telling my dad that it was like being in the movies, but in real life and that that’s what I wanted to do,” says Romero.
Seeing that his passion could become his career, Romero trained in acting and has participated in TV series and films, with many projects on the way.
