On May 17 and 18, the fourth Ibero-American Congress of Ceapi will be held in Madrid
MADRID, 9 (EUROPA PRESS)
The president of the Alianza por Iberoamérica (Ceapi) Business Council, Núria Vilanova, highlighted the “great potential” for recovery in Latin America, due, among other factors, to the fact that it is one of the regions with the greatest biodiversity in the world.
Speaking to Europa Press, Vilanova explained that this great biodiversity will generate several opportunities in the agricultural field and will boost the demand for raw materials.
Likewise, the new map of value chains after the pandemic will favor the Latin American recovery, since the United States “is looking towards Latin America because it does not want to depend again on countries as far away as China in some products that it considers strategic and vital” .
In this sense, Vilanova has highlighted that Spain will also play a relevant role in the recovery of Latin America, since it is currently the second largest investor in the region, with more than 42,000 million euros, only behind the United States.
However, he has pointed out that said Ibero-American recovery cannot be carried out without a business commitment and social transformation “in which both public and private agents will participate.”
Within this framework of collaboration, the president of Ceapi has highlighted the importance of creating a climate of trust between governments and companies, because “only if there is such a climate” will it be possible for entrepreneurs to create their companies and their projects and be willing to to invest.
“There are no successful companies in failed states, or successful states with failed companies. The company is interested in the country doing well and the Government in ensuring that the companies do well,” Vilanova warned.
PANDEMIC
On the other hand, the president of Ceapi has highlighted the behavior of society in the pandemic, as well as the good image generated by companies during the worst moments of the viral outbreak.
“The pandemic has made us stronger and see that we are capable of reinventing ourselves. People have seen the enormous capacity for reinvention and adaptation and it has been shown that companies have made the cut across many countries and have helped when needed , offering a positive image in society “, stressed Vilanova.
On the other hand, unequal access to vaccines supposes, in addition to a notable health impact, a delay in economic recovery. “Until this pandemic is controlled globally, we are all at risk due to the appearance of new strains,” Vilanova warned.
For this reason, the directive has described as very important the announcement that Spain will donate 7.5 million vaccines to Latin America. “It is necessary to be very agile and fast in transmitting the weight of the vaccines to the countries that need it,” said Vilanova, since the recovery of sectors such as tourism depends on the rate of vaccination.
IV CONGRESS OF CEAPI
On May 17 and 18, the fourth Ibero-American Congress of the Alianza por Iberoamérica Business Council will be held in Madrid, in which several business leaders from the region will meet to discuss the social role of the company as a participant in a new welfare state and post-pandemic recovery.
The meeting will analyze the keys to the economic and social future of Latin America, as well as the role of sustainability, digitization or public-private collaboration will have in the recovery.
“This congress will be focused on recovery and we believe that a recovery is not possible as it could have been done in the past, that is, looking the other way and at the expense of the environment, social commitment or leaving part of society back “, explained Núria Vilanova.
The Congress will be inaugurated by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and will be closed by King Felipe VI.
Among other participants, the event will be attended by the president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Mauricio Claver-Carone, the president of Inditex, Pablo Isla, the president of Mapfre, Antonio Huertas, the CEO of Endesa, José Bogas , or the president of Bancolombia, Juan Carlos Mora.
