On September 9 and 10, 2024,from we held a Regional Consultation for Latin America and the Caribbean in preparation for the Global Education Meeting 2024 (Global Education Meeting – GEM)with the participation of 25 ministries of education and nine regional organizations. This event took placefrom in hybrid form from from the UNESCO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (in Santiago, Chile), in his role as technical secretary of the Regional Steering Committee, to identify key strategies to comply with the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4)with a focus on ensuring inclusive, equitable and quality education for all.
The regional consultation is part of a global process that will end with the adoption of the Fortaleza Declaration, which will be the final document of GEM 2024, which will be held in Fortaleza, Brazil, on October 30 and November 1. This text will reflect the contributions of various regional consultations, including contributions from multiple actors. from all over the world.

The regional consultation focused on Latin America and the Caribbeanfrom in the advances and recommendations developed by the Regional Reference Framework on public policies for educational reactivation, recovery and transformation and the preliminary proposal on inclusive and effective funding. Both initiatives were developed in collaboration with ministries of education, intergovernmental organizations, civil society representatives, teachers, students and multilateral development banks.

During the two days of consultation, participants addressed essential issues for future education in the areaSuch as: the transformative power of education, the actions needed to accelerate progress towards SDG 4he climate change, peace, gender equality, education funding and equity.
