«Latgolys freska» – A tribute to the poet Anna Rancāne will be performed in Rēzekne / Article / LSM.lv

On Saturday, September 12, the Latgale Embassy “Gors” will host a concert performance “Latgolys freska”, which is dedicated to the anniversary of the poetess Anna Rancāne. The poetess herself will also be on stage. The event was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic from April 25 and will now have its premiere in the autumn.

The new Riga Theater actress Baiba Broka will perform in the image of the poetess Anna Rancāne, she will be on stage, if you can say, her double.

“Yes, I have entered such a large stream, such a very, very long-prepared one, I have long matured myself, that I am ready for this stream, to give a name to my other identity – the Latgalian identity, which is half of me as a person,” actresses Baiba Broka tells the feelings and feeling of Latgalian identity. “My mother is from Vidzeme and my father is from Latgalian, and I have felt more about life in Vidzeme so far, and now Viesturs [Kairišs] has invited, and I am insanely happy that I feel a lot we find ourselves or wake up through a meeting with Anna and Latgale. And it was in this performance that I felt that it was deep, deep in me, and I was not chosen by Viestura here by chance.

Because I don’t even know what strings together – music, Anna’s poetry, and Anna’s texts – affect me. ”

The creative team of the concert performance “Latgolys freska” includes conductor, artistic director of the performance Sigvards Kļava, director Viesturs Kairišs, artist Ieva Jurjāne, choreographer Jana Jacuka and others.

The concert performance will feature works by Andrejs Selicks, Rihards Zaļupe, Jānis Ivanovs, Ingars Gusāns, Oskars Stroks, Latgalian folk songs and also sacred songs. The musical message will be conveyed by the Latvian Radio Choir, ethno singer Biruta Ozoliņa, Ingars Gusāns or Sovvaļnīks, pianist Rihards Plešanovs, folk musician and master of musical instruments Aleksandrs Maijers and others.

“There are a lot of free spaces in this type of performance for the fantasy of the moment, for the event of the moment, and I really hope that some very important and nice feelings will be born during the performance itself, only on stage,” notes conductor Sigvards Kļava.

The performance reflects both the personality of the poetess Anna Rancāne and the places of Latgale close to her, which will be dressed in the language of music, poetry and prose texts. Already on Saturday, September 12, when the performance will be performed twice, it will be possible to feel how the poetess Anna Rancāne herself describes the performance – three-dimensional space: Latgale, its identity and time. Due to restrictions, there will be two instead of the planned one concert, so that more people can enjoy the performance.
