War in Israel
On October 7, Hamas militants entered Israel from the Gaza Strip. At first they managed to capture a number of settlements, but by the evening the Israeli military had regained control of most of the territory and launched retaliatory strikes on military installations and Hamas headquarters. Israel subsequently returned control of all areas, but there may still be Hamas militants in the territory.
Note that Israel declared a “state of war” and the start of the counter-terrorism operation “Iron Swords”.
In the first two days after the start of the war, the IDF hit thousands of targets in the Gaza Strip. But the Israeli army command emphasizes that this was just the beginning, as the IDF intends to destroy Hamas.
