Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The war between the Hamas group and Israeli troops is getting hotter. Missiles rained down from the sky, so that the death toll continued to rise in Israel and the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military said it was gathering troops near the Gaza Strip. This was done in response to the brutal attack from the Palestinian militant group Hamas last Saturday.

Israel has since ordered a total siege of the Gaza Strip. Thus cutting off supplies of water, fuel, electricity and food to the region and its more than 2 million residents.

The following is another update regarding the war, as quoted from CNBC International on Wednesday (11/10/2023).

The death toll rises to more than 2,700 people

At least 2,700 people died in the war between Hamas and Israel. From the Israeli side, for example, as many as 1,200 citizens have been killed with more than 2,700 injured since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Meanwhile, on the Palestinian side, around 900 people were killed in the Gaza Strip and 19 other people were killed in the West Bank. This number is expected to continue to increase considering that attacks from both sides are still occurring.

17 British Citizens Called Dead and Missing

Meanwhile, 17 British citizens, including children, disappeared. They are feared dead following a Hamas attack entering Israeli territory on Saturday.

British public broadcaster the BBC made the announcement Wednesday. The news agency cited unnamed official sources.

Israel Says 1,000 Gaza Infiltrators Killed

Israeli troops say they have killed 1,000 infiltrators from the Gaza Strip since the weekend Hamas attack. This was conveyed by a military spokesman quoted by the Israeli public broadcaster Kan.

“We counted 1,000 bodies of terrorists, there are still hundreds more waiting. This shows the scale of the attack, they are not planning an attack and retreat, but rather an occupation. On the last day, there were encounters with 18 terrorists in the Gaza Strip and Ashkelon,” said the spokesman who not named.

In the same report, the spokesperson added that Israel carried out attacks on more than 200 targets in the Gaza Strip at locations believed to be Hamas strongholds. Israel said it controlled the border with Gaza on Tuesday.

Hezbollah and Israel exchange fire

The Lebanese militant group, Hezbollah, claims to have attacked Israel with missiles on the border. This triggered a counterattack from Israel.

“This attack was a decisive response to the aggression that killed three Hezbollah fighters,” the group said, as reported by media outlets al-Manar affiliated with Hezbollah.

The militant group said it was firm in responding to Israeli attacks in Lebanon. Especially when the martyrs died in the attack.

Previously, the Israeli Defense Forces also reported anti-tank missiles launching from Lebanon towards a military post adjacent to the Al-Aramshe community on the Lebanese border in a Telegram social media post. The Israeli military said it was currently carrying out attacks in Lebanese territory, without revealing the specific areas targeted.

Lebanon and Israel have repeatedly exchanged fire since the attack carried out by the Hamas group on Saturday. This situation has rekindled tensions in the Middle East.

Israel Gathers Soldiers on the Gaza Border

Israel has deployed troops on the Gaza Strip border in preparation for a potential ground attack against the Hamas group. This was conveyed by an Israeli military spokesman.

“What we have also done in this area close to the Gaza Strip is we have deployed, in fact, we have deployed infantry, armored troops, artillery, core, and many other troops, from reserves, which are 300,000 people, in brigades and different divisions, and they are now near the Gaza Strip, preparing to carry out the mission that has been assigned to them, that has been assigned to them by the Israeli government,” Israel Defense Forces spokesman Jonathan Conricus said in a video update.

“And this is to ensure that Hamas, at the end of this war, will not have military capabilities that can be used to threaten or kill Israeli civilians. That is our military goal,” he added.

Israel has deployed 300,000 reserve troops to carry out an armed response to attacks carried out by Hamas at the weekend. In the Gaza Strip, they have launched a total siege, disrupting fuel, water, electricity and food supplies.

Power Plant in Gaza Runs Out of Fuel

The only power plant operating in the Gaza Strip will run out of fuel in 10 to 12 hours. This was reported Reuters, quoted Palestinian Energy Authority Chairman Thafer Melhem speaking Wednesday morning to Voice of Palestine radio broadcaster.

The plant uses diesel fuel and has a nominal capacity to produce up to 140 megawatts. For your information, Israel stopped supplying electricity, fuel, water and food to the Gaza Strip on Monday.

Russia Meets Saudi Arabia

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said the current war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas could affect the oil market. Novak represents Moscow in discussions and policy decisions carried out by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies or OPEC+.

He admitted that he would soon meet with Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister and OPEC’s de facto leader, Abdulaziz bin Salman, to consult on the crude oil market.

“Of course we are discussing this issue. Such events in the world, in one way or another, can affect the situation of consumption of energy resources in one direction or another,” Novak said as published by a Russian news outlet TASS.

Russia and Saudi Arabia are the largest OPEC+ producers and typically determine the direction of the alliance’s production strategy and the voluntary production measures undertaken by some members.

Crude oil prices are supported by instability in the Middle East. At the weekend, terrorist attacks launched by Hamas hit Israel on the 50th anniversary of the 1973 Arab-Israeli war, which rocked the oil market through the Arab oil embargo against the United States (US).

Joe Biden Calls Hamas Satan

The President of the United States (US) Joe Biden gave the latest comments regarding the Hamas group’s attack on Israel. He called the attack by the Palestinian ruler of the Gaza Strip a “very evil act of Satan”.

“There are moments in life … I mean that literally … when pure evil comes into this world. The people of Israel experienced that moment over the weekend,” an emotional Biden told reporters at the White House Tuesday evening, as quoted Reuters.

“This is a very evil satanic act,” he stressed, referring to Hamas.

Biden also described the report of the attack as astonishing. He said that many parents were massacred, babies and entire families were killed, and women were raped, attacked and paraded like trophies.

Biden also said Hamas had threatened to execute hostages, including survivors of the Nazi Holocaust. He said the group’s brutality and bloodlust was a reminder of ISIS’s worst atrocities.

“This is terrorism, but unfortunately for the Jewish people, this is nothing new,” Biden said, adding the incident had brought back memories of antisemitism and genocide against the Jewish people.

The US itself is a close ally of Israel. In fact, the country receives large donations every year from Uncle Sam.

Pope Francis Responds to Hamas

Pope Francis urged the Palestinian Hamas group to immediately release all captured hostages. He also said he was worried about Israel’s total siege of the Gaza Strip.

“I pray for the families who have seen a day of celebration turn into a day of mourning and ask for the immediate release of the hostages,” Pope Francis said in his weekly audience, according to Vatican News.

“It is the right of those who are attacked to defend themselves,” the Pope said. “My concern is about the total siege that Palestinians face in Gaza, where there are many innocent victims.”

“The Middle East does not need war but rather peace, peace built on justice, dialogue and fraternal courage,” he added.

US Talks to Egypt

The US has signaled efforts to broker a humanitarian corridor with Egypt. This will be done for civilians stranded amid crossfire in the besieged Gaza Strip.

“This is something we have also discussed with our counterparts in Israel and with our counterparts in Egypt,” said National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

“And without getting into specifics about safe passage for civilians and so on, I would say that this is something that the US government is looking at… in support of how we do this operationally. But the details are still being discussed.”

But he declined to provide further details, stressing only that consultations were ongoing.
