Ukraine’s success at the front was already confirmed by a video published online on Thursday with current geolocation data.
It shows how Ukrainian armored vehicles are already located south of the third and final layer of the so-called “Surovikina Line” in the Zaporizhzhia region.
At the moment, it is still too early to draw conclusions about the victory of the Ukrainians, and it is not clear whether the soldiers will be able to hold the territory behind the last layer of fortifications.
However, the latest successes at the front show that the Ukrainians have broken a gap big enough in the defense layers to get their equipment through it. At the beginning of the week, a video verified by the British broadcasting company BBC concluded that infantry could get through the Russian fortification, but not armored vehicles.
ISW said the Ukrainian army has been making steady advances in the sector since mid-August, despite the deployment of elite units of Russian soldiers there. Along with several Russian airborne units, the 22nd Special Task Guard Brigade is also stationed there.
CONTEXT:
On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops. Putin claimed that NATO was going to use Ukraine as a springboard for aggression against Russia, although there was no evidence for these claims. Ukraine believes that Putin’s real goal is to destroy Ukraine’s statehood and bring the territory under Moscow’s control.
A large-scale offensive failed, Ukraine did not give up, and with the help of foreign military aid, the Ukrainian army managed to stop the invaders and in the autumn to liberate the Kharkiv region, recover Kherson, and at the beginning of the summer, the Ukrainian counter-offensive began.
