TRIBUN-BALI.COM – The effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccine produced by Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson is said to have dropped dramatically when the Delta variant infected the United States (US).
This was revealed in a study involving nearly 800,000 veterans.
Launching WebMD, Friday (11/5/2021), the research was carried out by a team of researchers from the Public Health Institute in Oakland, researchers from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Francisco, and a team of researchers at the University of Texas Health Science Center.
The study, published in the journal Science, found that three vaccines that offered protection against the Delta variant of the coronavirus when they were first detected in the US in March had their effectiveness changed or decreased six months later.

Researchers noted, two doses modern vaccines decrease in effectiveness.
From the previous 89 percent effective in March, to 58 percent effective in September.
Meanwhile, Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine changed from 87 percent effective to 45 percent effective over the same time period.
Likewise, Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine showed the biggest decline, from 86 percent effectiveness to 13 percent during the 6-month period.
“In summary, although vaccination still protects against SARS-CoV-2 infection, protection (vaccine) decreases when the Delta variant appears in the US, and this decline does not differ by age,” the study authors wrote in the study.
All three vaccines also lost their effectiveness in their ability to protect against death in 65 veterans, and more thereafter in just 3 months.
