The government will provide subsidies for electric vehicles. However, this rule has not been released since it was announced in mid-December. What’s the latest news?
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita had stated that electric cars would receive an incentive of IDR 80 million, then IDR 40 million for hybrid cars, IDR 8 million for electric motorbikes and IDR 5 million for convertible motorbikes.
The latest news from the Chairman of Gaikindo, Yohannes Nangoi, said that the incentive policy is still being discussed.
“Indeed, the plan is around IDR 80 million per unit, that’s what the Minister of Industry said. But the Minister of Industry is not alone, we must get sufficient approval,” said Nangoi in Jakarta, Thursday (26/1/2023).
Regarding the amount of incentives, Nangoi said that if the Rp 80 million subsidy realized for electric cars could make the automotive industry excited.
“What is the amount (of the subsidy)? For me it is extraordinary. Because I see it in Australia, the support is around 3,000 or maybe around Rp. 30 million. In Indonesia, if Rp. 80 million is extraordinary. Although there are countries thatsupport more than that, and it depends on the capabilities of each country,” said Nangoi.
Separately, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the electric vehicle subsidy policy was final. Luhut said the electric vehicle subsidy policy would be announced next week.
“Yes, we hope for next week. Hopefully there will be no more obstacles. Later, we will hear about it, yes, but I asked for details, hopefully next week, early February,” Luhut said after being a speaker at the Saratoga Investment Summit 2023 in Jakarta, Thursday (26/1/2023), quoted from detikFinance.
