Latest News: Hospitalization and Incidence Rates in BW’s Districts are on the Rise – lokalmatador

The incidence in Baden-Württemberg is on 15.3. (as of 3 am) further down to 34.8 (-1.7) compared to yesterday. However, only cases appear in the statistics in which a PCR test was positive. Apparently these are becoming less and less common. The “real” values should therefore be significantly higher. All districts in BW are officially below 100 again. Another 11 people have been since March 14th. died of or with Corona.

Viral load in wastewater increases significantly

The proportion of nationwide locations with increasing viral loads in wastewater is as of 14.3. at 85% and is thus almost twice as high as in the previous week (42%).

This is how it is measured: The participating locations (sewage treatment plants and laboratories) measure the SARS-CoV-2 load in the wastewater from the sewage treatment plants involved and transmit the data via the federal states to the Federal Environment Agency (UBA). There the data is checked for quality, normalized and sent to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on a weekly basis.

On 15.3. (As of 5 p.m.) the number of corona patients in the intensive care units in BW is 133. That is 8 patients more than yesterday and 29 more than a week ago (March 2nd). These values are far from the highs of the time (over 600).

At the end of January 2023, there were still less than 60 corona patients in the intensive care units in BW. The highs in the autumn wave of 2022 were around 180 patients.

Across Germany, the occupancy of the intensive care beds is again around 1,150 Covid patients (as of March 15th). Most of these are in NRW (313) and Bavaria (207). At the end of January it was still under 600.

Covid patients in the normal wards continue to fall slightly

In some federal states, the number of patients who tested positive in the normal wards has increased significantly compared to the previous week (as of March 9th). Bremen is at the top (+ 15.2%), ahead of Thuringia (+ 12.0%). In Bavaria (- 16.5%) and Rhineland-Palatinate (- 9.3%), on the other hand, the values have fallen compared to the previous week.

XBB.1.5 share climbs to 27 percent

No new data was transmitted this week (March 9) on the proportion of omicron variants.

The new variant XBB.1.5, which is dominant in the USA, increases nationwide in week 7/23 (February 13 to 19) from 19 percent to 27 percent (as of March 2). This makes it the most frequently detected variant and its proportion is expected to continue to grow. She is under observation at the WHO. Since the numbers from the RKI are lagging behind, one must assume that the XBB.1.5 variant will be more widespread. So far, however, no more severe courses have been reported. However, the numbers have been rising again for a few weeks. At least a slight new wave is emerging.

“Hellhound” variant BQ.1.1: share remains at 14 percent

According to the RKI, the proportion of certain sublines of the omicron variant BA.5, in particular BQ.1.1, is currently not increasing in Germany. She is also under observation by the WHO. According to the weekly report by the RKI (March 2nd), the proportion of this variant has remained the same nationwide at 14% compared to the previous week. This means that it is still the second most frequently detected variant at the moment.

The “Hellhound” variant (BQ.1.1), as it is also known, is significantly more contagious than the current version and can evade the body’s immune response to a considerable extent.

The total share of all BA.2.75 sub-lines varied between 20% and 22% in the last four reporting weeks. Among these, the sublineages under observation CH.1.1 (9%), CH.1.1.1 (3%) and BN.1.3 (2%) continue to be detected most frequently.
