“Airlangga has resigned,” said a senior Beringin party official to Tempo, Sunday, August 11 2024.

He said his party would hold a Special National Conference (Munaslub) on August 25. The Golkar Party, he said, would prepare Agus Gumiwang as the acting general president until the process of electing the main leadership of the party.

“The plan is to hold the National Conference on August 25. Later, Agus Gumiwang will become the Acting General Chairman of Golkar until the National Conference is held,” he said.

According to him, Golkar’s acting Minister for Investment Bahlil Lahadalia is expected to be a strong candidate to replace Airlangga. Two other Golkar elites confirmed the information about Airlangga’s occupation.

Golkar DPP president Dave Laksono did not want to talk when he was confirmed about the news that Airlangga had resigned from the party that is synonymous with the color yellow. “Wait, okay?” he said.

Before Airlangga announced his resignation, the chairmanship of Golkar General Chairman had been in turmoil since the middle of last year. Golkar Expert Council Ridwan Hisjam has asked Airlangga to resign. Ridwan also suggested that his party hold it immediately Munaslub to remove Airlangga from the post of Golkar General Chairman.
