Authority Armenia reported more than 30 people died as a result of the latest military operation launched Azerbaijan to the region Nagorno-Karabakh which is in dispute. Azerbaijan has called the military operation in Armenian-controlled Nagorno-Karabakh an ‘anti-terrorist’ operation.
As reported AFP, Wednesday (20/9/2023), the death toll was reported by Armenian Human Rights Ombudsman Anahit Manasyan in a statement via social media Facebook. It was also stated that hundreds of people were injured in less than 24 hours since the Azerbaijani military operation was launched.
“As a result of the attack, currently 32 people have died and more than 200 people have been injured,” said Manasyan in his statement.
He said seven of the dead were civilians, including two children.
Azerbaijan has again launched an ‘anti-terrorist’ operation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region under Armenian control, internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan.
Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, as reported BBCinsisted that he would not stop carrying out attacks until the ethnic Armenians who control the region surrendered their weapons and dismantled their ‘illegal regime’.
On Tuesday (19/9) local time, air raid sirens and mortar fire were heard in the capital of the Karabakh region, namely Khankendi, which is called Stepanakert by the Armenian people. An estimated 120,000 ethnic Armenians live in the mountainous area.
